2016 – LEXUS RC 200t

The Lexus RC line was extended with the 200t version, which joins the powerful and sporty F. The new 2.0-liter petrol turbocharged engine is coupled to an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission, which, together with a host of sophisticated technologies, delivers engaging, smooth driving and a quick throttle response provided by a fast response from the turbo, in addition to high fuel efficiency.

The driving dynamics of the new Lexus RC 200t can be enhanced by the F-Sport version, which includes the application of a differential with self-locking type Torsen and adaptive variable suspension. With a weight of only 160 kg, the compact, lightweight 2.0-liter turbocharged engine features a number of advanced technologies, such as the ESTEC system – Economy with Superior Thermal Efficiency Combustion, which boosts fuel economy by increasing the thermal efficiency achieved by better combustion.

Among the technologies included in the new engine are a D-4ST gasoline direct injection system with a twin-scroll twin-turbo turbocharger, cooled engine head, integrated head exhaust manifold and a variable Large-Width Valves VVTi-W – Variable Valve Timingintelligent Wide. Combining fast throttle response and high torque at low revs and low fuel consumption, the new engine is capable of developing 243 hp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. This performance places the Lexus RC 200t with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 230 km / h, together with an average consumption of 13.9 km / / km. The D-4ST system combines high-pressure injection pressure directly into the cylinder and low inlet pressure, providing optimal combustion even under high loads and at low temperatures. This advanced gasoline injection system works in conjunction with turbocharging to create a compromise between turbulent air intake achieved by optimizing the shape of the intake manifolds and the top of the pistons as well as the need for pressure turbo at outdoor car covers.

The water cooled engine head has a built-in 4-way exhaust manifold that comes in at only 2. This system joins the cylinders according to the expansion or compression time. Working in conjunction with a high-efficiency twin-scroll turbocharger, this innovative structure prevents the exhaust gases from mixing, generating high torque over the full rev range. The air / liquid intercooler integrated directly into the engine significantly reduces the volume of air between the intercooler and the turbocharger, minimizing the turbo response delay, providing faster acceleration.

The 2.0-liter turbo unit is equipped with the VVT-i variable valve timing system on the exhaust valves and a VVT-iW variable-valve timing system on the intake valves. Combined, they provide high torque regardless of engine load and engine speeds, working under the Otto cycle, or at the most fuel-efficient, Atkinson cycle. The new Lexus RC 200t, rear-wheel drive, features an SPDS (sport Direct Shift) 8-speed transmission, originally developed for the RC-F. Equipped with butterflies on the steering wheel, these allow the manual use of the transmission, overlapping the automatic control. A force sensor G is present at the transmission control, choosing the most suitable ratio. At the most sudden braking the deceleration causes the transmission to assist the braking automatically reducing, allowing more safety, and at the same time always maintains the best ratio for a good acceleration.

Superior Driving Dynamics

The driving dynamics of the new RC 200t perfectly reflects Lexus’s goal of optimizing driving pleasure and improving the performance of its models, giving drivers a more sporty and engaging driving experience. The starting point for the agility of the RC coupe was the precision of the steering, high levels of mechanical grip that coupled with its rigid body allows greater communication with the driver. Numerous Lexus production techniques, including glues and adhesives, spot welding and laser were improved to make the body strong. The double overhead front and rear suspension triangle suspension system on the rear of the new RC have been developed exclusively for the 200t version, combining a good compromise between dynamic agility and superior comfort. The new Lexus RC 200t is equipped with a driving mode system – Drive Mode Select – which gives drivers the possibility to choose between SNOW, ECO, NORMAL and SPORT (SPORT S with F-SPORT) modes.

Lexus RC 200t F-Sport – Sporty driving environment

With a significant improvement in dynamic performance, without compromising quality, the RC 200t F-Sport combines the Torsen self-locking differential and adaptive variable suspension (AVS). The AVS system automatically acts on the 4 shock absorbers, in order to adjust its reaction, favoring the comfort in a straight line and the stability in curve. When the driver chooses the SPORT S + driving mode (exclusive to RC F-Sport) the system recognizes the difference between the external and internal bumpers in curves, further reducing body trim.

An elegant coupe and an interior focused on the driver

The impressive exterior design of the Lexus RC 200t 2-door coupe features a compact interior that contrasts with the wider fenders and aerodynamic and sporty lines. The result is three-dimensional shapes that constantly change the appearance of different points of view, creating a unique and strong presence regardless of the angle at which it is observed. In line with the sporty lines of the coupe, the F-SPORT version has a larger trapezoidal grid, with the widest and lowest entry in all Lexus models, emphasizing the low center of gravity and the width of the RC. With a perfectly integrated design, the grille incorporates the two fog lights as well as the brake cooling ducts. The RC 200t can be fitted with 9-spoke, 17-inch, 5-spoke and 18-inch or 10-spoke 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The F-Sport version combines the specific logos and the 19-inch F-Sport alloy wheels.

To highlight the sporty elegance of a coupe and the premium quality of the interior of the new Lexus RC 200t, soft materials were used to the touch, contrasting colors and unique lighting positioned from the bottom up. Sports seats have design and function. Specifically developed with an integrated construction between foam and cladding, they provide maximum lateral support. The dashboard is divided into two zones: operational and presentation, exposing the technology aboard the Lexus. The upper part includes the dashboard and a 7-inch multi-information screen, while the lower operating zone includes the second-generation Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) in the center console. The F-Sport version inherits the instrument panel with the center ring of the Lexus LFA supercar. The interior also contains unique design details in the F-Sport version, such as the leather-trimmed steering wheel and lever with perforated trim, aluminum pedals and plates at the identification thresholds.

2016 – LEXUS RX 350

With the line being made up of RX 350 and RX 450h versions, the model measures 4,890 mm long, 1,895 mm wide and a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. In its fourth generation, the RX adopts a much more aggressive style than usual, marked by very angled lines, such as those introduced by the NX. In particular, the shape of the bumpers, the grid of new design and the visual signature guaranteed by the optics (mainly the front ones) integrally in LED. As standard, the RX offers 18-inch alloy wheels, with optional new 20-inch wheels that can receive inserts in the same color as the body. The interior has also been totally renovated, with the Lexus ensuring it is able to offer more legroom in the rear, with materials and finish of an even better quality than the current one. The rear seat features 60/40 asymmetric electric folding; an optional laser cut wood decoration is available as an option; being offered a new head-up display. In terms of safety, highlight the debut of the Lexus Safety System +, which brings together the PCS pre-collision system; the LDA exit warning; the headlamp assistant AHB; and the maintenance assistant on the LKA lane, among other more common devices. The line will consist of the RX 350 and RX 450h versions, both announcing a maximum power around 300 hp, and being available with both front wheel drive and all wheel drive. The first version is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine and direct gasoline injection combined with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

The second version uses the Atkinson version of the same propellant, here coupled with an electric motor for greater energy efficiency. In addition to announcing a more rigid structure, the new RX is now available for the first time also with a piloted cushion suspension, called AVS. For both models, Lexus also proposes the F-Sport versions, but only in models with full drive. Visually, the main differences lie in the application of the F-Sport logo on the body, on the 20-inch wheels with graphite finish. The interior has specific instrumentation and sports steering wheel in leather perforated with butterflies of command of the transmission. Nevertheless, the main attribute of these F-Sport derivations is the inclusion in the standard equipment of the active stabilizer bars and the AVS system and the inclusion of the additional Sport S + mode (in addition to the usual Eco, Normal and Sport) all aiming for a better dynamic performance, especially in curves.
