I WILL NEED TO CHECK FURTHER TO DETERMINE THE ACTUAL DATE OF THE ACCIDENT. THE TIRE IN QUESTION SUFFERED TREAD SEPARATION WHILE I WAS STATIONED IN SWITZERLAND WITH THE U.S. FOREIGN SERVICE AND DRIVING ON THE AUTOBAHN IN GERMANY. THE TIRES WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON THE CAR, WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN THE U.S. I DROVE THE CAR FROM 1993-1994 IN GUYANA, A TROPICAL COUNTRY IN SOUTH AMERICA. WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE FIRESTONE TIRE RECALL DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION, ESPECIALLY AFTER BEING DRIVEN IN HOT CLIMATES, I DECIDED TO REPORT MY 1995 ACCIDENT. THE BLOWOUT CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR, WHICH VEERED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND SLID INTO A MILEPOST ON THE DRIVER’S SIDE. THE CAR NEARLY FLIPPED — WHEN IT STRUCK THE MILEPOST IT LEANED OVER ON TWO WHEELS BEFORE SETTLING BACK ON FOUR. I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE — THERE WAS NO PROXIMATE CAUSE FOR THE TREAD SEPARATION — AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHETHER THERE IS ANY POSSIBLE CONNECTION TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE PROBLEMS. I WOULD ALSO APPRECIATE YOUR ADVISING ME WHETHER I SHOULD CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER AND DEMAND COMPENSATION OF ANY KIND. THANK YOU.
